It looks like the Spin controller has a bit more control possibilities, but it's also laid out for a specific program, where the Discover DJ is a bit more flexible in that respect. (that's what i plan on doing - seriously.)

unless you put in on a guitar strap and really rock it.

Oh and factor in everyone laughing at you if you pull this out as a backup. also remember, this is bare bones control - unless you map one of the buttons to a 'shift/modifier' key and start getting all MIDI-mapping crazy. I guess as a back up, this would be ok, but you would also have to factor in the cost of an audio interface if you don't already have one. It does not have a built in sound card, so a splitter cable or separate sound card is required to use headphones with it. Yes - you can change the crossfader curve in Traktor (i would perfer it to be sharper - I love the vci's ultra sharp curve, but it's still better than Cross's CF curve(which you can change to sharp btw, but only though editing midi mapping files, which Cross LE doesn't support, go fig), and you can also reverse the CF. The ION Discover DJ is a cheap budget MIDI controller meant to 'discover DJ-ing' for people with a potential interest. The scratch algorithm is much better in Traktor in my opinion. I'd like a small controller I can actually scratch with to use as a backup, but can't swallow spending $500 on a VCI. I already have CDJs, 5 different midi controllers and turntables w/ timecode vinyl. I'm stuck between getting this and the Vestax spin. With Traktor are you experiencing the same "bubble" sound as the video? I guess with Traktor you can also change the crossfader curve and reverse it, so the scratch quality should actually be better with Traktor. Here is my system specs: Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU E2160 1.80GHz 3gb RAM NVIDIA GeForce GT 220 Video Card I'm running Windows 7 64bit & VDJ Pro 6.0.8 Trial I first inserted the CD that came with the Ion Discover DJ USB Controller - contents of disc: Install Cross - Discover DJ 1-1.2.9.exe Installer & ENGLISH.pdf Ran the installer, it installs the Cross Discover DJ Software Upon first run of program it asks for serial, once entered the ION DJ Controller functions w/ Cross fine Installed trial of VDJ 6.0.8 In Config > Mappers I am given 2 options: Keyboard & Simple MIDI wrapper NOTE: When the option 'Show only connected devices' is unchecked I can access the mapper for the Ion DJ Controller It seems that VDJ is recognizing the Controller as the wrong device. After watching the video I'm curious.
